Race Weekend Recaps!!

Chad Lewin Race Weekend #1

March 11, 2007 marked my first race weekend of the 2007 race season at Virginia International Raceway. Practice on Friday went very well and we got the NPSRACING.com Pirelli shod GSX-R600 and 1000 working awesome by the end of the day. On Sunday I was signed up to race A Superstock, B Superstock, C Superstock, and Formula 1. First race was Formula 1 on the big 1000cc bike. From the 3rd row I got the holeshot and UNAWARE of oil on the track and no oil flag, I had a big high side in turn one off the start. Sadly I completely totaled the 1000 and it was not salvageable in any way. I ended up cracking my hip but finished out the day riding my GSX-R600.

In A Superstock (on my 600) I finished 2nd behind Lee Acree riding a GSX-R750, I kind of cruised around that race, as I was still shaken up a bit from my big high side the race before. In C Superstock I started from the 5th row and within 3 turns had the lead and cruised to an easy win by 20+ seconds. In the last race of the day, B Superstock, I was on the 4th row and Lee Acree was grid on pole. I got a 4th place start and got into second by turn 3 and reeled in Acree. With Lee Acree on his GSX-R750 and me on my GSX-R600, it was a task to battle with him, but we swapped lead positions throughout the race and Lee ended up drafting by me on the straight to win by 0.5 seconds. Next stop is Rd. 1 of the WERA National Challenge Series in Georgia.

Huge thanks to everyone helping me out this year making it possible to pursue my dreams of one day becoming one of the greats: NPSRACING.com, Pirelli, Tiger Shark Racing, Spiegler, Hamaguchi Exhausts, Vesrah, Sudco, Moto Tecnica, T2 Tire Warmers, Suomy, Vortex, Hot Bodies, and Esjot Sprockets.

Chad Lewin Race Weekend #2

Rd. 1 WERA National Challenge Series

March 24-26, 2007 marked the first round of the WERA National Challenge Series at Roebling Road Raceway. Unfortunately due to me totaling my 1000 the weekend before, I only had my NPSRACING.com GSX-R600 to race all weekend. I did not practice Friday to save my hip a bit for qualifying and the races. In qualifying I did very poorly and qualified 15th and 11th in 600 Superstock and 750 Superstock. Thermosman and I made some changes to the bike before Sunday’s races which made a huge difference and I felt ready to battle for a win.

In 600 Superstock I got a terrible start as my bike hit neutral going from 1st to 2nd gear off the start, I rounded out turn one in 35th place. I put my head down and made quick work of the pack on the hard to pass track. I was reeling in the leaders fast setting the fastest lap of the race and setting a new 600cc track record with a 1.13.041. Coming from up to 13 seconds back, I caught the lead pack battling for the win. I made a few passes and got into 4th when I ran wide on the last lap dropping me to 7th by the end of the race losing by only 1 second. In 750 Superstock (riding my GSX-R600) I got an excellent start and got into 3rd by the end of the 2nd lap when a red flag came out. On the restart I got a terrible start, but after 4 laps another red flag came out. Unfortunately I didn’t have spare tires mounted and ready to go. While everyone else changed at least a front tire, I had to run what I had and they were only good for 1 race distance of 10 laps. On the next restart I got a 5th place start and the battle was on between Jacobi, Jensen, Caylor, Acree, and me. I got into 3rd place and again set the fastest lap of the 750 Superstock race on my 600 and beat my 600cc track record set in the race before with a 1.12.777. After about 7 laps of us going back and forth swapping positions, I tucked the front bad as it was passed its peak and I had to slow down in order not to crash and ended up finishing 4th in 750 Superstock. Next stop is a CCS Regional in Arizona

Chad Lewin Race Weekend #3

On March 25, 2007 I had a CCS Southwest Regional race at Firebird International Raceway. I had never been to the track but learned it very fast and got the NPSRACING.com GSX-R600 and (borrowed 1000) set up perfect. On Sunday morning I had a big high side on the 1000 that was my fault by forgetting to set the rear tire pressure before going out. The bike wasn’t too messed up, but my cracked hip from my crash 2 weeks ago was killing me. I still raced winning Unlimited Supersport and Middleweight Supersport by 15+ seconds. I also set a new 600cc track record with a 56.686. In Unlimited Grand Prix there was Scott Jensen and Mark Ledesma on full blown superbikes that even had traction control. I had my borrowed GSX-R1000 with my NPSRACING.com superstock spec motor and got the holeshot going into turn 1. I was leading for 3 laps over Ledesma and Jensen and we were all well under the overall track record when my bike started having electrical problems and completely died on me. I wasn’t happy as I knew it was most likely the power commander that went bad and sure enough…IT WAS. 3rd one this year to go bad on me. Next stop is a WERA West Regional at Las Vegas Classic Course.
